Are you already in Halloween mood? Don’t worry! I have some amazing book to share with you guys that will guarantee some amazing time! And if you are not in the mood yet, I am sure that after reading some of these you will be!
So, last year I did two Halloween posts: Best Halloween Books and Best Halloween Movies. But this year I decided to do just a bookish one. I absolutely love this time of the year and I feel that I’ve been reading some really good books just right for Halloween! So, I hope you guys enjoy this post and get to read some of these books if you haven’t already!
HALLOWEEN MOOD READS:
1. The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken
This was the book that inspired me to do this post. It has magic, witches, cats with wings, demons, EVERYTHING! It’s just so much fun and creepy! I LOVED IT and it’s perfect for Halloween! And that cover is to die for!
2. Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott
This is an extremely disturbing and heart-wrenching book about abuse, both psychological and physical. It’s not Halloweeny, but it’s no soft read and it’s a book that you will never forget and it brings creepy to a total new level! It’s realistic, it’s sad and extremely powerful emotionally. And since it’s pretty heavy I decided to include it here. *If you suffered from abuse – depending on the extent of that abuse – it might be better if you pass this one up.*
3. Odd & True by Cat Winters
This book is definitely the type of weird I would like to have on Halloween. It’s not necessarily scary but it has fantasy mixed with history and sometimes I couldn’t even tell if something was real or not. It was extremely interesting and unique and just perfect for a Halloween night!
4. Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
This is the second book in the series, so if you haven’t read that one yet you might want to although this is a prequel. It has the perfect Halloween setting! It’s mysterious, dark and the world is to die for! It reminds me a bit of Frankenstein and Dracula together.
5. It by Stephen King
This had to be here… It’s creepy, the movie just came out and let’s face it, Stephen King is just the type of author you associate with Halloween, right? Or is it just me? This was my first book from the author and I have to say that the writing is more than fantastic! I’m not much for creepy stories but he writes like no other!
7. First We Were IV by Alexandra Sirowy
When I got this book I didn’t really associate it with Halloween but it’s so messed up and slightly dark… I think it would be perfect for it! For me, the best part was the characters! This book made me feel a lot of emotions and I mean, let’s face it… Secret societies are awesome!
8. Because You Love to Hate Me: 13 Tales of Villainy edited by Ameriie
Villains! Because this is naturally their time! This one has 13 short-stories all about Villains! I think it’s just perfect for October! Some of the short stories are really good and dark and will definitely put you in a Halloween mood! I wish I had read it during this time!
9. Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
This book might not be for everybody but… Personally, I love it! It has a very unique atmosphere to it that is perfect for Halloween. It’s dark, mysterious, gruesome and yet funny and with a bit of romance and a lot of girl power! Plus, the second book in the series just came out so if you haven’t picked this up yet, you should soon!
10. Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody
I wanted this book for so long! I was expecting it to be more about circus than it is, but it was a fantastic read! It has a lot of exciting and weird magic; the world is quite mysterious and it gives a spooky feeling! It’s a really interesting story with unique and amazing characters! Plus the plot-twists are rather fantastic.
11. Bad Little Girl by Frances Vick
Welcome to the most messed-up novel ever! This book is incredible. It’s scary, emotional and utterly dark! It has some pretty amazing and unconventional characters and it’s the perfect read for Halloween!
12. And I Darken by Kiersten White
This is not totally a Halloween read but it has a lot of blood, wars and it’s utterly dark in every sense. It’s a fantastic read with AMAZING characters. It has one of the most fearless girls I’ve ever seen. It’s a book that blew my mind and it only gets better!
13. Sleeping Beauties: A Novel by Stephen King and Owen King
This one is a recent release and I’m really interested in reading it! It’s just so dark and I never read anything by Owen, so this is for sure a book I will be picking up!
14. Slasher Girls & Monster Boys by April Genevieve Tucholve*
This was one of the books I chose to read during Halloween, so I don’t really know if it’s a good recommendation or not. I don’t know much about it but the name and the title are just so perfectly creepy that I couldn’t pass it out!
15. A Semi-definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland
And this is my other pick for me to read during Halloween! I love the cover so much! I mean, a skeleton and a black cat, plus the color purple that is naturally mysterious? Yep, I needed this! It sounds really good and something like I never read before.
Let’s talk…
What about you guys? What type of books do you love to read during Halloween? Have you read or wanna read any of these ones?
Great recommendations indeed!

Some great books on this list and a few I haven’t heard of and will be adding to my TBR.
I’m a little disappointed that my copy of Semi Definitive List of Worst Nightmares has a cover with a lobster on it but I can confirm it is a kinda scary book to read as I share many of the same fears as the main character.

I have only read a little over 100 pages so far. I haven’t read as much as I had planned this month and I haven’t picked up in over a week. I plan to get back to reading it when I get back home from my trip.

Thank you! 😍 Me too! But I only found the other cover in a book store and decided to pick it up. It’s not as creepy but it’s still very mystical and interesting! Have you seen it?
