TTT: Books I Disliked but Am Really Glad I Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010 out of a love of lists. It recently changed to That Artsy Reader Girl and that’s where you can find the topics for each Tuesday.

This week’s topic is:

Books I Disliked/Hated but Am Really Glad I Read (maybe just for bragging rights)

I don’t think I have any I hated and that I am glad I read, cuz probably if I was hating them, I never finished them. But I do have some I just read that were just okay, I liked them, but they weren’t anything special – but that I am still happy I read! So let’s go for those! They are also books I highly doubt I will ever re-read. Actually, cross that, I will never re-read them.

Do you have any books you didn’t like but are happy you’ve read? Which ones?

The first books that came to my mind are The Mortal Instruments series. They are just okay for me. I love the world, which is why the first book is rated higher, but overall they just don’t grip me, they feel often boring… I much prefer TID to this one, but I’m happy I read these, and that I am ending the series because the world is amazing.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is definitely not the book for me. I’m happy I read it because it’s a classic and it’s quite popular, but I didn’t particularly like it. Too much nonsense for me, I just feel I didn’t get anything out of it.

The One Memory of Flora Banks was an interesting and okay book. I liked it, but it was nothing special. The idea is amazing and it was done well, but it’s also very repetitive, which although normal, it wasn’t for my taste.

Lord of the Flies is a book I read because it’s a classic and everyone seems to have read it. I thought I was really going to enjoy it but in the end, it was just ok – I liked it but it was nothing special. It was for sure a weird and vivid book but it was extremely slow, which was one of my main problems. It’s a book that really makes you think and that has important messages and for that, I’m really happy I read it.

The Circle was another okay book. It had a really great idea but reading it was boring for me, so I went for the audiobook. It was a really different book and that I did like about it, but the main character is so dumb! I really didn’t like her. It was also a bit too repetitive which wasn’t my gem…

  1. I think I’m in the minority when it comes to the Mortal instruments as I much preferred it to TID (which I still haven’t finished). Saying that I still probably wouldn’t read it again.

I did love Flora Banks but then I love books about memory (I’m odd I know) and it just made me smile soo much.
