This is the first time I’ve ever read this book and it’s a shame really… I would have loved and treasured this so much as a kid! But alas, I never heard of it back then… But at least I read it now, and even tho this is a children’s classic, it’s perfect for young adult and adult readers alike. There’s so much to learn from it!

Anne of Green Gables is a book full of emotions, love, family, friendship, hope, and life in the most beautiful of ways! It is full of imagination and creativity from Anne’s part but it’s a very realistic view of the world, to the point of putting me to non-stop tears!

This book is about Anne, a red-haired orphan who went to live at the Green Gables by mistake. It’s set in Canada, more precisely Avonlea, Prince Edward Island and it’s beautifully described! We see Anne’s childhood and all that comes with it until she is a teenager. It’s beautiful to see it all step-by-step!

Anne is the most amazing child and girl I’ve ever read about! She is so full of life, imagination, and love! She truly is incredible, not needed to say that she truly won me over! She is incredibly interesting, intelligent and different. The way she talks (which she does a lot) is very grown-up but you can see that she is but a child in her way of being, which is incredibly sweet to read about! It truly melted my heart how much she tried to be the best she possibly could and how straightforward she was about what she wants in life! She is extremely determined and hard-working and will do everything possible to follow her dreams and ambitions! But the best part of her is how dreamy and imaginative she is! It really left me opened-mouthed with how beautiful and bright she made the world seem, it made me so happy! How I would have loved to live at the Green Gables too and have her as a friend!

I loved to see Anne and her friends together, especially Diana and how connected they were to each other and how much she won everyone’s friendship at Avonlea! But more than that I loved how much her relationship with the Cuthbert’s brother and sister (who adopted her) evolved! Especially with Marilla… Seeing them adjust to her and try to do all they could for her and her future was a delight to read! I loved how warm-hearted their relationship was! Especially with Matthew here… I loved him with Anne!

As for the setting… I don’t know how accurate it is, but it reads very realistically and it looks beautiful! Avonlea is such a magical place and it’s guaranteed to warm your heart! Especially described (and imagined) by Anne…

I learned to love pretty much everything in this book… That village just gives that nice feeling of really knowing everyone! Which leads me to the writing… It was beautiful and gripping and I can’t wait to read more about Anne! Every page was a surprise and a new adventure! And the end… Oh, the end… It broke my heart in a million pieces. But it also filled me with hope! My emotions are literally all over the place after reading this!

It was beautiful to read about Anne and see her grow up and change, and yet still be the bright and amazing girl from the beginning! I believe I can’t possibly put into words how beautiful this book is. I love it with all my heart and it’s definitely a must read!

  1. Hooray! Another person who loves Anne! I had the first mate listen to it this year and he loved it too. This is one of me favourite books ever and I adore readin’ reviews of people who listen to it the first time. I know there is a new Anne with an E series out but the older movie makes me happy. Arrr!

  3. I’ve always wanted to read this book, even more so after the Netflix adaptation, Anne with an E, which I thought was a brilliant feel-good sort of show. The setting was gorgeous and it sounds like the actress really managed to capture that imaginative and bright personality that is Anne of Green Gables. The way you described the book makes it all seem so magical and wonderful. So happy that you enjoyed it so much! Can’t wait to read it for myself now 😀

  5. I usually don’t like Classics but this one is an exception. I adore the relationship between Anne and Marilla. It’s so cute! Anne has helped Marilla open her heart and Marilla has helped Anne to be more realistic. ❤️
