The highly anticipated third book in Sabaa Tahir’s New York Times bestselling EMBER QUARTET.
Beyond the Empire and within it, the threat of war looms ever larger.
The Blood Shrike, Helene Aquilla, is assailed on all sides. Emperor Marcus, haunted by his past, grows increasingly unstable, while the Commandant capitalizes on his madness to bolster her own power. As Helene searches for a way to hold back the approaching darkness, her sister’s life and the lives of all those in the Empire hang in the balance.
Far to the east, Laia of Serra knows the fate of the world lies not in the machinations of the Martial court, but in stopping the Nightbringer. But while hunting for a way to bring him down, Laia faces unexpected threats from those she hoped would aid her, and is drawn into a battle she never thought she’d have to fight.
And in the land between the living and the dead, Elias Veturius has given up his freedom to serve as Soul Catcher. But in doing so, he has vowed himself to an ancient power that will stop at nothing to ensure Elias’s devotion–even at the cost of his humanity.
This is such a glorious series! It’s so intense and surprising and absolutely awesome!!
This is one of the most action-packed series I’ve read, and each book is so different and yet they grip you with all that is happening. The whole series has been so interesting and there’s nothing I would change in it. All the darkness, war, blood, friendship, family, … It has literally everything I love…
This book is even darker than the previous ones, it’s getting more intense and more interesting with each page. I really enjoyed the blood Shrike’s perspective in this book, she had quite a big roll in it and I loved it! And Laia continues to be an amazing and strong character. I’m really happy that she didn’t turn into a damsel in distress…
The world fascinates me more and more. I’m a sucker for dark worlds and this one is just PERFECT. So much blood, so much death, and paired with dark magic?! It’s all I’ve ever wanted! I don’t wanna say too much, but Elias, Helene, and Laia are characters worth reading about. There’s no way anyone would get bored reading this series. It’s extremely exciting and if you like darkness… perfect for you. It just keeps getting better and better and the writing grips you from the very start.
There’s so much happening in this book that surprised me. I literally didn’t see a lot coming and I’m extremely excited to know more and to see where this is all going to lead, because that end left me extremely excited! I would highly recommend this epic series to anyone!
