Sometimes the difference between a love story and a horror story is where the ending comes . . .
While Jude fought for power in the Court of Elfhame against the cruel Prince Cardan, her sister Taryn began to fall in love with the trickster, Locke.
Half-apology and half-explanation, it turns out that Taryn has some secrets of her own to reveal.
The Lost Sisters is a companion e-novella to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince by master writer Holly Black.
This was quite a tiny and unexpected book! It was SO dark and just really surprising!
This book is all about Taryn. She seemed like such a good little girl most of the time in The Cruel Prince and it was really interesting to see beyond that. This book is meant to be a sort of apology letter to her sister Jude, explaining the reasons for her actions. It literally reads like a note and it was way more powerful than I expected it to be.
I can’t say I particularly like Taryn, but I feel that I understand her much better – especially how messed up she is. I mean, she just wants to be loved and to belong to the world she now lives in… But hell, she can be quite a mean thing contrary to her appearance at first glance!
But the most striking and infuriating thing in this book is not her actions or her reasons, it’s freaking Locke, whom I deeply hate. I mean, she is already quite messed up, and he only makes it worse and worse… He makes me SO mad! I really pity her for how much she would do and give for him… It’s sad and I believe she deserves much better. If I despised him before, that emotion was only enhanced… God, I really don’t want them together…
This was overall a really good story if only a bit too tiny, I mean WAY too tiny… I need more and I need the next book ASAP!
