Goodreads Choice Awards Reviewed

Hi guys! Today I decided to talk about this year’s Goodreads Choice Awards

It’s probably the first year I get them so wrong so, I thought this would be fun! I didn’t vote in all of them, so I’m only focusing on the genres I did vote!

Hope you enjoy!

Fiction:

Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney

Starting off with Fiction, this is actually the book I voted for!

I found the writing stunning and the story is so real and raw! It’s beautiful and I couldn’t recommend it more!

Want to read from the nominees:

Mystery Thriller:

The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave

I hadn’t even heard of this book before it was nominated? How come it’s so popular but I didn’t even see it around all year? Is it just me? Anyone else?

I was really hoping one of these won and I voted for The Push by Ashley Audrain. However For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing wasn’t even on the running! I can’t even believe it. They are both SO good! The Push is all about motherhood and what it is to be a mother, or what should be…. For Your Own Good is about a teacher taking things on his own hands, it’s fantastic!

Read my reviews for The Push and For Your Own Good!

Want to read from the nominees:

Historical Fiction:

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Read

This was not my choice and I have yet to read it but I heard about it all over the internet. Although I read mixed reviews for it, it seems most people enjoyed it, so I definitely need to try it out!

I really wanted The Four Winds to win. It’s such an incredibly beautiful book! It’s all about survival and is set during dust bowl era Texas. It’s touching and emotional and I absolutely loved it!

I forgot to do a review for it but trust me, it’s a beautiful book and totally worth reading!

Fantasy:

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas

This is definitely not a surprise. It was bound to win and I had to choose it too. It’s an incredibly popular series and this first one following Nesta I loved!

This is a series I totally love, although the second book is still the best one in my opinion!

As I’m writing this post I am currently reading Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune, which is the only other book I was interested in!

Romance:

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

I’ve read this one although it was not the one I wanted to win. Gave it three stars and I enjoyed Beach Read a lot more than this one. SO, to be honest I’m a bit bummed this won…

Read my review here!

This was the one I chose to win. It’s such an amazing and gripping book! It has a bit of “magic” of sorts, a sapphic romance and a mystery to solve. It’s so incredibly good! And also quite popular, I’ve seen it around a lot so I really thought it could win. Sadly that wasn’t the case.

Read my review here!

I also read Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren, While We Were Dancing by Jasmine Guillory and How To Fail at Flirting by Denise Williams!

Want to read from the nominees:

Sci-fi:

Project Hail Mary  by Andy Weir

I totally thought this would win, although I have yet to read it, it’s in my fiscal TBR! I just have a hard time reaching for sci-fi… I know I would probably enjoy it when I do start it but I have yet to take that step…

Want to read from the nominees:

Horror:

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix

This was definitely the one I thought would win. Grady Hendrix is amazing at writing horror, and unfortunately Later by Stephen King wasn’t the most popular of his works, even tho I loved it!

I have yet to read this one, but for sure it’s in my TBR!

Want to read from the nominees:

Graphic Novels:

Lore Olympus Vol.1

I totally thought this would win, even tho it wasn’t the one I voted on. I’ve literally seen it everywhere. I have no idea what it is about but that cover… SOOOO GOOD. I totally need to get it!

I voted on ExtraOrdinary (Villains #1.5) by VE Schwab. I loved that book so much! The only problem was how short it was. I need more!

Want to read from the nominees:

Debut Novel:

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas

I had no idea what would win for this one, but once again I chose The Push and not this one. This one is in my TBR tho, I saw it once at the book store but it was totally overpriced, so I’ll get to it at a later date!

Want to read from the nominees:

Young Adult Fiction:

Fire Keeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley

I totally thought this might win, I’ve seen it everywhere and I totally need to get to it! I didn’t choose this one tho, I chose The Project by Courtney Summers! That book totally took me from a book slump and I have no idea how, but it was gripping and interesting and I love anything to do with cults.

I also read Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon, which I really enjoyed. It’s about love and giving it a shot even tho it seems scary. It also has some magic in it, which I really enjoyed.

Want to read from the nominees:

Young Adult Fantasy and Sci-fi:

Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo

I totally thought Chain of Iron would win, I can’t even believe it. Maybe it’s because of the new TV series? No idea, but this totally surprised me!

I have yet to tread this one although it’s in my physical TBR, but I must say the first book wasn’t that good compared to Six of Crows… But still enjoyable. Anyway I really wanted either Gods & Monsters to win or A Sky Beyond the Storm (my choice)! They are some of my fav book series and would highly recommend it!

Want to read from the nominees:

Middle Grade & Children’s:

Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan

Is anyone even surprised anymore? Rick Riordan always wins… I have yet to read this one tho, but I already got it in my physical TBR because Rick Riordan is a totally auto-buy author for me. I chose Bridge of Souls by VE Schwab which is an amazing trilogy!
